![]() Greetings,
I am very thankful for the sunny day! After living in New Mexico for 25 years, where sunshine is plentiful, the bright blue skies are something I really enjoy. Welcome to another week as we are awaiting word from our Governor and Superintendent about the future direction of our schools during the next month. I have been in communication with some parents and I am following the teacher's communications with parents. I encourage you to reach out to teachers or me if you have concerns about NTI Days or schoolwork. From what I have read, the teachers have been flexible and will do what they can to work with you. You can also reach me at : [email protected]
Again, distance learning provides many new challenges which we are constantly striving to overcome. Some parents feel like the workload is too much, others feel the workload is about right, and some parents want their children challenged more. Parent feelings can be based on several situations:
This week you may be hearing from some of our teachers who are involved with our specials (art, music, Spanish). These classes are optional - you are not required to participate in them. St. John School is offering these classes for those who are looking for some different activities that we normally carry in our curriculum. Our classroom teachers continue to follow our curriculum in a sequenced manner, so that our students will be able to step right into the next grade level. This will also allow us to know what students covered and where we need to review or pick up next year.
Last week, I had a meeting with representatives from the Scott County School District Title program. They are dealing with the same issues, only on a much larger scale. I had a great conversation about what they are requiring and what we are doing at various grade levels. I have communicated this to our teachers. Please continue to hold high expectations for your children. More importantly, there is enough stress and anxiety with COVID, so please contact the teachers to see if they can modify or help you figure out a way to ease any frustration.
For those who are looking for some computer programs to enrich your child's learning here are some suggestions: Prodigy (Math), Learning A-Z (Razz/Reading), Mystery Science, and Kids Discover. Many of these are free for the next few months. Look for the parent sign up / registration on their sites. There are many other learning programs that are free right now.
Whew - that was a lot! The key issue that is so important, which I will also reiterate to teachers, is to communicate and be flexible.

FREE Breakfast and Lunch to children 18 years of age and younger
During this time of uncertainty, the Catholic Diocese Foodservice program would like to do it's part in helping those in need. We encourage all families in our Catholic Diocese school and parish communities, who are in need of assistance, to take part in this no-cost meal service program for children 18 years of age and younger. But because this is a pandemic, all children 18 and younger qualify to eat for free.
The Catholic Diocese Foodservice program is committed to doing all that we can to meet the needs of our school and parish community during this unprecedented time. This free meal service will help to ensure the well-being of our children by meeting their nutritional needs, while easing some of the financial burden to families.
Beginning Monday, March 30th, we will start serving a FREE Breakfast and Lunch to children 18 years of age and younger. It will be served in three of our school/parish parking lots in a meal pick-up service. Children must be present to claim a meal. Breakfast service will be served from 8:00-9:00 am and Lunch 11:00-12:00 noon. Multiple days may be picked up at one time. The locations of service are Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School, Lexington, Good Shepherd School, Frankfort, and St Leo Catholic School, Versailles.
May this mission to empower those in need and bring a community closer together in God. Please pray for my staff and voluntaries as we begin this challenge. As St Patrick once said, “May the strength of God pilot us, may the wisdom of God instruct us, may the hand of God protect us, may the word of God direct us. Be always ours this day and evermore.”
Blessings to All
