Since the announcement on Tuesday, March 12th of the $100,000 Matching Grant Program (flyer attached down below), the school has now raised $14,245 towards the goal! Let us make one final push for some extra donations over the last days of this month! For those that have not donated yet, remember that giving a donation now doubles the value of the gift because of the matching fund. No gift is too small to help! The Parish Life Center will house a large meeting space capable of holding 500+ people that will serve the school as a gym, as an assembly hall, as an indoor recess area, and as an expanded seating area for the attached Chapel. It fulfills a decades-long vision to provide a gymnasium for our school so that our students benefit from daily indoor access as well as extracurricular sports and activities.
A reminder that MAP testing started today and will continue this week on Wednesday and Thursday.
Also, remember that Volunteer Appreciation Day for all our awesome volunteers is tomorrow (Tuesday) April 23, 2024. Please join us that morning for Mass followed by a brief reception in the Chapel. Details are below.
Lastly, we have a few staff updates to share. It is bittersweet to announce that Mrs. Hoff will be leaving us this next school year to pursue teaching in Lexington. We are happy for her as she starts a new journey, but sad to see her leave. Her contributions at St. John School and its literacy program will be remembered for years. Her friendly interaction with the students, her excellent organization and focus on details, and her ability to put together fun and exciting projects that the kids displayed in the hallways are all admirable traits that we will miss dearly. Also, we will be looking for a new part-time PE teacher next year. Mrs. Lemons will not be able to teach it for us again next year. Teaching PE without a gym or indoor play space (think Parish Life Center gymnasium!) is a tough gig in Kentucky. This year, it seems like it has rained almost every Friday! We will miss Mrs. Lemons’s creativity and the fun games that she brought to SJS this year for PE.
Job postings for all openings can be found on the Diocese of Lexington website. We will also have them out to all the local schools/universities.
Save the Date to help with the St. John School Field Day – May 17, 2024.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
