St. John Families:
What a first, "short" week! I think it lasted 12 days! Couple of reflections for all of you:
1. Friday's pickup was a great success. Thank you for not piling up early at the gate and arriving much closer to 2:40 or later. We were able to get everyone in place, and there did not seem to be the issues with blocking US25. Additionally, we were able to go from dismissal at 2:55 "to wheels up" at 3:01. That is 6 minutes to get the cars loaded and moving. Great job and thanks for the help!
2. PLEASE watch out for symptoms of illness in your children including nausea, fever, new cough or runny nose, aches, feeling flush, or acting lethargic. Help us keep the school from being the source of Covid spread and keep your children home if you, them, or their siblings are exhibiting symptoms. Also, keep them out of school if they have been exposed to a positive Covid case. We will be updating you when I speak to Wedco on Monday 8/23/21 regarding our Kindergarten quarantine due to a Covid positive case in the class.
3. Our first school Mass will be this Tuesday at 8:30. Right now the weather looks like we will be able to hold it in the Grotto. Please remember to dress the students in their Mass uniforms on Tuesday. For girls that means a white oxford shirt and a jumper/skirt/skort (navy or plaid for K-5; khaki or plaid for 6-8). For boys that means a white oxford shirt with a navy tie and pants (navy for K-5; khaki for 6-8). Pants means pants (not shorts). Oxford shirts can be short sleeve or long sleeve (I recommend short sleeve till it gets colder).
4. Please don't forget to buy or sell your Raffle tickets (that October 16 drawing is not as far away as you think). This is a huge fundraiser for the school and the whole parish is supporting us. We need to do our part and lead the way with turning the sold tickets and the money in as quick as possible. You can drop off the tickets at the office or place them in a sealed envelope to return with your child (Just mark the envelope "Raffle Tickets" or mark it with "OFFICE"). Thanks to those who have already turned in some ticket sales.
5. We still need cafeteria help. Please consider volunteering to help prepare or serve food to the students. You can reach out to the office for specific details including days needed and times to show up.
6. Congratulations to the Horseman family! They won the $50 Scrip card from the orientation drawing.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer

“The family, is so to speak, the domestic church.” (Lumen Gentium #11)
We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Good Shepherd to bring CHRIST IN MY HOME Ministry to SSFJ! Each week, a short video (no more than 10 minutes!) will be sent via email and posted on our SSFJ website. The videos will help you prepare for the following week's Gospel along with practical ideas for building your "domestic church". It is our hope that you will set aside a time to view the video as a family and invite Christ in to your everyday living!
Videos and discussion questions will be emailed out on Sunday afternoons and posted on the SSFJ Facebook Page & the SSFJ Website.
