Weekly Updates
December 2018
Greetings,
During the Advent season, the students and staff have been taking time to step back and look at who they are, what they are doing, and where Jesus fits in their lives. We have discussed the meaning of the Advent wreath and what each candle on the wreath represents (Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love). This is the second week of Advent, so we are beginning each morning with a prayer for peace. The Advent wreath and prayer is a great way to remember the true reason for the season. I have attached a prayer the we say each morning. It would be great if you would take a few minutes to say this short prayer with your children each day during Advent. I will follow up with the prayers for the third and fourth week. This is a fantastic tradition in our faith.
As you have probably figured out, there will not be a Christmas program. We have decided to change things up and we will have an Epiphany Music Concert on Tuesday, January 8th. The concert will be held at the church. The children have been practicing during their music classes for the last couple weeks. More details to follow.
Just a reminder, during drop off and pick up please be aware and courteous of other drivers. There are only two exit lanes. There have been a few close calls because people are weaving in between the two lanes. This is a great time to practice the St. John School “Virtue of the Month – Patience.” I appreciate your help in making our campus a safe place.
God bless and take care,
Dan Mardell
Advent Prayer for Peace – Second Week
Dear Jesus, you entered our World on Christmas as the Prince of Peace. This Advent, as we strive to become the – best – version- 0f – ourselves, fill us with a deep and abiding peace. Help us share that peace with everyone we encounter, especially those who need it most. Amen.

Dear Parents,
Our school will be participating in the SchoolStore program this year. This online program helps our school earn cash without students selling door-to-door, collecting money or delivering products. Over 400 merchants, including Best Buy, Target and WalMart, have joined together to offer up to 50% of sales to our school for shopping through SchoolStore.com.
To shop and support our school, simply go to www.schoolstore.com and select our school.
Participation is key in helping get the word out about our School Store. In January your child will come home with a parent packet requesting you to help them enter email addresses to friends and family. When you enter just 3 email addresses you'll receive a prize code your child can return the next day for a prize. Thank you for your families support of our school
Contact Christine Sawalha at 502-316-1345 or [email protected] for more information.
