Notes From the Office: Monday, February 12th, 2018Weekly Updates February 2018 Greetings,
First, I want to express my appreciation for all the support that our school and church community poured out for the Farrell family during this time. Mrs. Farrell's sister, from Ireland, summed it up the best when she expressed that our community from youngest to oldest was so supportive. She could not of envisioned all the prayers, emotional support, and planning that went in to making this such a comforting time for the family. I am so proud of our seventh graders, teachers, and others who came out in full force to support Sean and his family. This truly exemplifies what we try to teach at our school.
We held our annual "Battle for the Rock" last Friday. We had a great time at the Georgetown gym celebrating our cheerleaders, basketball players, and wrestlers. Even some of the teachers and parents got into the action during the student basketball game. I think we all found out we are not as young as we used to be!!!!!
Lent starts this week with Ash Wednesday. There will be an ash service on Wednesday at 8:30 for our students and anyone else who is interested. Students do not have to wear their Mass uniform on Wednesday. On Fridays during Lent there will be a student led Stations of the Cross starting at 8:15 am. We will also be collecting money in our rice bowls to donate to Catholic Relief Services.

P.S. There are many events going on in the school and parish. Please make sure you are asking your student if they have any papers for you from the school. This email and those flyers contain important information that we don't want you to miss out on!
Here's What's New!! 
It's that time of year! You should have received a letter about how to register your student for the 2018-19 school year. Registration in now open to parishioners and will open to the public on Tuesday, February 20th. Current families can click here to download a copy of the registration letter. We will be doing registration completely online this year. Please make sure you hit the green submit button to fully register your child. If you need any help, please call or stop by the school office.

SIA Upcoming Events - Mark your Calendars!!
Saturday, March 10th. Movie Madness Night at Cardome, 630 - 9pm. Join us for a movie shown in the Chapel. $5 a person includes pizza and juice/water/soda.
Friday, March 9th. Scholastic Book Fair opens at the Friday Fish Fry! Bring your kids and shop shop shop!
Tuesday, March 13th. Scholastic Book Fair “Breakfast and Books” 730am -830am. Come eat breakfast and shop the book fair, then stay for Mass.
Saturday, April 21st. Volunteer Appreciation Night at Slainte, 6pm - 9pm. Come out and join us as we thank YOU, the wonderful volunteers of Saint John School for all you do to make our school a great place!
Monday, May 7th - Friday, May 11th. Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week - more information to come.
Art News
February Art Clubs
Arts and Crafts and Drawing K-3rd. Tuesdays 3-4 pm. Snack included. Cost $25.
Drawing class Thursdays 3-4pm. 4th-8th grades. Students receive individual instruction for their skill level. $50. Snack included.
Sketchbook Club meets Wednesdays for grades 1st-8th. 3-4 pm snack included.
Meets on designated Wednesdays. This months February 14 & 28th. This club is for those whom want to increase their art skills but may have too many activities going on for a regular club. Self study based. Sketchbook club meets this January 31st from 3-4.
Looking for unwanted tennis shoes with cool sole texture. If you have a pair of worn or unwanted shoes with a cool design on the sole we are looking for 18 pairs for a print making project for 2nd grade. Please contact Miss Barb in the art room if you would like to donate.
