St. John School Newsletter
February 28, 2022
St. John Families:
Lent begins this week. The season of Lent is a time for prayer, sacrifice, and affirming our Christian identity. You can find a little more information on Lent in the Catholic church here What is Lent? | USCCB.
The school will have its own Ash Wednesday service in the morning and will be observing the Stations of the Cross every Friday morning during Lent.
There will also be two opportunities for giving during Lent, one will be our traditional Rice Bowl collection to support Catholic Relief Services (visit CRS Rice Bowl | A Catholic Program for Lent to see what kind of impact we can have with our support) and the second will be a collection of goods and financial support in partnership with our parish and lay Franciscans to support Afghan refugees (more details on this opportunity will be forthcoming).
In case you missed the Covid/masking communication from last week, you can find it here. I will be sending specific communications throughout this week addressing the Healthy at School plan, the status of Scott County’s Case Incidence Rate, and concerns about our direction going forward.
Lastly, we had another successful open house yesterday. A few of the families visiting mentioned that a current family had made them aware of our school or encouraged them to come visit. Thanks again for your efforts to spread the good word about St. John School. Also, please don’t forget to register your returning students and get those fees into the office! Sometimes we get busy and think that we have plenty of time to get that done, but for me right now, time seems to be flying by.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer

School breakfast and lunch will be free for all students for the 2021-22 school year. This takes the burden off of families while they continue to recover from the pandemic.
