Other than the difficulties caused by the weather, our science fair at Cardome was very successful! I would like to thank all the parents, judges, and teachers for their help. I would like to give a special thanks Alltech, Newton’s Attic, Patrick Sheridan, Jimmy Blankenship, Roy Sturgill, and Jeremy Hughes for putting together such a great afternoon of science stem activities that truly engaged the students.
This will be a busy week as we start our winter MAP testing. The testing gives us some excellent data on the progress of our students. Please help us by making sure your children are rested and have eaten a good breakfast. Again, thank you for helping make our school such a great place!
God bless and take care,
Dan Mardell
Here's What's New!!
Parents please make sure your student has a good nights sleep and eats a healthy breakfast on their MAP test day. Also, try not to schedule any doctor appointments on the day your child tests.
No school on Monday, January 16th, 2017.

Yes, that’s right! YOU are our best form of advertising! With upcoming Open Houses scheduled for January 29, March 5 and April 19, we need your help more than ever to help spread the word about St. John School. You are excellent ambassadors for our school and below are a few ways you can help:
Pick up an Open House flyer from the office and post in town or your place of business
If you’re a social media user, “share” our Open House event and any other relevant posts
Pick up the SJS car magnet from the office – mobile advertising at its best!
Share prospective student leads with the office – maybe your friend or neighbor is exploring new school options
Pick up a yard sign – we’ll be bringing those out of the basement this week so be on the lookout
*Volunteer to help give tours at the Open House on Jan 29 from 12 to 2 pm
*Donate refreshments for the Jan. 29 Open House - we need cookies and/or bite-size desserts, fruit , small bottled waters, juice boxes, small plates, napkins and forks.
*Contact Andrea Flanders at [email protected] or text 859-396-3364 to volunteer or donate
Thank you for all you do!
Our first Scrip order of the new year is tomorrow, January 10th. Orders will be placed every 2 weeks. Use My Scrip Wallet to access cards immediately.

Severe Weather Policy We had several questions last week about how we deal with weather situations when children are already at school. Below is the policy from our school handbook.
St. John School will not always follow the decision of Scott County Public Schools with regard to the closing or delay of school due to hazardous weather conditions. We will announce decisions as soon as possible on Lexington television stations. Please refrain from calling the office or faculty at home.
Once the decision has been made and the school is open, we will not close early. Your children are safe. However, if you feel threatened by the weather or road conditions and want to pick up your children early, you may do so by coming to the office and signing them out.
