I broke the good/bad news to a student that I ran into at Kroger yesterday….it is 1 month until school starts!! We are still busily putting things together for the fall, but at least we are not having to set up a new school building this year!
Here are the important dates/times to keep in mind:
July 20th – Used uniform sales; 1:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM; come by and pick out what you need from our used uniform stock. We will have the uniforms set up in the Parish Hall/Cafeteria. Please drop of any uniforms you would like to donate to the school office by July 18th.
July 25th – First day of cross country practice; see details below.
August 7th – Orientation Day for all school families (including NEW families); 3:00-5:00 PM. Additional details will be sent later this month.
August 9th – Orientation Day for all NEW school families; 6:30-8:00 PM. This will be a chance for you to ask questions or cover things that did not make sense from Sunday, but just as important, it will be a time to meet the other new families and some of our returning families. Additional details will be sent later this month.
August 11th – FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL; gates open at 7:20 AM and school starts at 7:50 AM.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and keep your eyes open for the next round of details next week.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
IMPORTANT LUNCH INFORMATION
Parents/Guardians
Please be aware that the federal USDA waivers that provided free lunch and breakfast for all students for the past two years have not been extended for the 2022-2023 school year. Students that do not qualify for free and reduced benefits will be charged for breakfast and lunch when they return to school in August. Additional information on meal pricing will follow.
With school starting soon, as of August 11, 2022, all parents and guardians will be responsible for maintaining their student’s accounts. The cafeteria staff will no longer allow “Ala Carte”, “Snacks”, or “Extra Entrees”(ex: pizza) to be purchased unless funds are available in the student’s lunch account.
All parents will be encouraged to complete an assistance application that could qualify them for reduced prices or free meals based on income guidelines. This application will be available after July 1st. Below is a list of frequently asked questions. I hope this will provide helpful information.

It’s that time of year again! Cross country is right around the corner! This is both an invitation to join the team AND to start getting some miles on your legs! The first practice this year will be Monday, July 25, at 6 PM, right next to the playground in Brooking Park. Practices will run until approximately 7:15 until the school year starts. All you need is a pair of running shoes, some water, and a great attitude!
It is a smart idea, especially for runners who are going to be in the fifth grade and up, to start doing some running in the summer in order to build a good base for the season. Coach Meghan happens to be hosting a running club for St. John students during the summer at the park. They are meeting two or three times a week in the evening. This is a great way to start getting those legs and hearts into shape! If you are interested, please contact Coach Meghan at [email protected].
Please consider coming out and giving cross country a chance – it is a lot of fun participating in this super team sport and individual sport. I look forward to seeing all of the returning harriers and all of the new faces on July 25! Have a super summer! Coach Todd
The Diocese of Lexington is looking to hire a cafeteria manager. Must have 2 years experience. Please contact Char Banta at [email protected] for more information or to apply.

Important Lunch Information for the 2021-2022 School year
School breakfast and lunch will be free for all students for the 2021-22 school year. This takes the burden off of families while they continue to recover from the pandemic. We still need our families to apply for free/reduced lunches if applicable, click here. These applications affect receipt of the P-EBT cards the government has been sending out as well as grant money the school receives from the state.
