What a great time at the St. Patrick’s Day Gala! The atmosphere was wonderful, the people welcoming, and the food and dessert was very tasty. I even saw several teachers lead on the dance floor! The silent auction was a rounding success as well. The numbers are nearly final, but I can confirm that the event outperformed on revenue vs. budget! A huge thank you to all our sponsors, donors, attendees, and volunteers that made the night a success. And a special thank you to Jess Manning and Stefanie Adams for championing the event to the end. It was a great build onto the success from last year’s gala and set the bar for what we do next year!
Attached here is a letter summarizing Fr. Linh’s talk with the school families last Tuesday night (3/12). The biggest, exciting news was the announcement of the $100,000 Matching Grant Program. Since its announcement last Tuesday, we have raised $5000 towards the matching funds to support the Parish Life Center. This permanent structure will house a large meeting space capable of holding 500+ people that will serve the school as a gym, as an assembly hall, as an indoor recess area, and as an expanded seating area for the attached Chapel. It fulfills a decades long vision to provide a gymnasium for our school so that our students benefit from daily indoor access as well as extracurricular sports and activities.
Last week you should have seen your student(s)’s 3rd Quarter report card. A reminder that we are now in the final quarter of the school year. It is important that the students stay focused on academic progress as this quarter puts the finishing touches on their learning for the year and sets the stage for next year. For our middle school parents (especially the 8th grade parents), please help us stay on top of them for assignments and studying. There is a lot of leaning left to go before we check out for summer!
This Friday is the last Stations of the Cross for the school during this Lenten season. You are invited to join us in the main Cardome Chapel at 8:15 AM. The Stations are led by the 4th and 5th grades. On Good Friday, March 29th, the Stations are replaced with our Passion Play. The Passion Play will start at 9:00 am. If you would like to attend, please arrive no earlier than 8:50 am as the students will be running through the final preparations until that time. A reminder that Good Friday is a half day, there is no Afterschool that day, and it marks the beginning of SJS Spring Break the following week.
There is also only one Knights of Columbus Fish Fry left. A big thank you to all the bakers and workers helping us to raise funds for the DC Trip. If you love to bake, please bake up something that can be cut into smaller pieces and drop it off at the office this Friday or drop it off at the Fish Fry! We take donations for the baked goods to fundraise for the trip!
If you have time tonight (3/18), the last of the talks of the Holy Eucharist will be at 7:00 pm in the Chapel.
Save the Date to help with the St. John School Field Day – May 17, 2024.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
