Since the announcement on Tuesday, March 12th of the $100,000 Matching Grant Program (flyer attached down below), the school has now raised $10,400 towards the goal! Great job! The Parish Life Center will house a large meeting space capable of holding 500+ people that will serve the school as a gym, as an assembly hall, as an indoor recess area, and as an expanded seating area for the attached Chapel. It fulfills a decades long vision to provide a gymnasium for our school so that our students benefit from daily indoor access as well as extracurricular sports and activities.
This weekend we learned of an upcoming staff change for next school year. Fr. Derek has been assigned to the role of Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral of Christ the King effective July 1. This means that he will finish his teaching duties for St. John School at the end of this school year in May. While we will have a more formal goodbye at that time, I do want to point out how lucky we have been to have Fr. Derek teaching for us and just being present with us these past two years and thank him for being such a tremendous asset for us on campus!
This upcoming week is a busy one around campus as we conclude our Lenten observance. See the flyer below for the full calendar of the Holy Week services and events. Please don’t forget that this Friday (March 29th) is Good Friday and our Passion Play. The Passion Play will start at 9:00 am. If you would like to attend, please arrive around no earlier than 8:50 am as the students will be running through the final preparations until that time. A reminder that Good Friday is a half day, there is no Afterschool that day, and it marks the beginning of SJS Spring Break the following week.
Dismissal Instructions for the Good Friday, March 29th at 11:15 AM:
The gates will open at 11:00 AM and dismissal will be like any other school day with the exception that Preschool-only families (those with no older siblings) will get separate dismissal information from Mrs. Zuehl with an earlier dismissal time. Preschoolers with older siblings at St. John will follow the normal dismissal process we follow every day (just at the earlier time)
A huge thank you to all the bakers and volunteers that helped us raise funds for the DC Trip during the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry. Your efforts helped us raise over $2500 towards the trip!!
Lastly, on the Monday we come back from Spring Break (April 8th), there will be a solar eclipse that will be observable in our area (Central KY). The peak of the eclipse is projected at 3:05 PM which is after our dismissal time, but it will be observable starting just before 2:00 PM. We purchased viewing glasses for each student for that day. You may choose to sign your student out early as an excused absence if you would like to gather or take them to observe the eclipse elsewhere.
We will be proceeding with dismissal at the normal time. If you would like to observe the eclipse near or at the peak time on campus, I would ask that you park in the Main Cardome Lot by the South Entrance and walk up to take your student over there before/at dismissal time. You will also need to bring your own eye protection to safely observe the eclipse. Obviously, if the weather is cloudy/rainy in our area, there will not be much to observe, but it should still get much darker. Keep your fingers crossed!
The cafeteria will be offering snacks to purchase on Fridays. This will include items such as chips, rice krispies, cookies, etc. Snacks are $1.50 each. Student must have a positive balance to purchase. Please contact the cafeteria at [email protected] with any questions.
