Greetings,
What a gorgeous weekend! I hope you took some to enjoy the outdoors. As we move through March, the students and teachers are working very hard. The school spelling bee will be held for grades 3-5 and 6-8 this week.Winners will move on to the diocesean spelling bee. Due to Covid, the diocesean spelling bee will be virtual this year - it will be interesting to see how it works.
The plans for moving St. John School to Cardome are moving very fast. We are on track to move the school out to Cardome by August of 2021. The classrooms and cafeteria should be ready to go. This is a very exciting time to be a part of St. John School. If you have not seen the video about the transition to Cardome please check out the link below.
Service is an important part of our school. We will be having a dress down day on Wednesday to raise funds for the flood victims in Eastern Kentucky. This is a great way for our students to help our neighbors who are struggling in Eastern Kentucky. We are asking the children to bring a minimum one dollar donation to participate in the dress down day. Please take some time to talk with your children about the importance of giving and helping those in need. Any donations are appreciated.
God bless and take care,
Dan Mardell Principal
Fundraiser for Eastern Kentucky Flood Victims
Eastern Kentucky experienced historic rainfall and devastating floods. This extreme weather event occurred immediately on the heels of the snow and ice storm that had already left many without power. The images of flooding and property loss are heartbreaking. Many homes suffered severe damage and some homes are a complete loss. Federal aid assists in costs related to relocation of families but there are critical needs still present for many families. The Diocese of Lexington is taking up a collection to support the emergency needs of families in the area and will administer the funds via Catholic Charities. Families are in need of financial assistance as well as basic hygiene and household items. Catholic Charities will work with these groups to lend aid to families and individuals as they rebuild their lives. Please give to this week's second collection to support the emergency needs of our brothers and sisters in Eastern Kentucky.
Thank you for your help and continued prayers for all who are affected in Eastern Kentucky.
SJS will have an out of uniform day on Wednesday, March 10th for a minimum $1 donation to support the flood victims. Students may also bring in basic hygiene items and cleaning supplies to donate.

“The family, is so to speak, the domestic church.” (Lumen Gentium #11)
We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Good Shepherd to bring CHRIST IN MY HOME Ministry to SSFJ! Each week, a short video (no more than 10 minutes!) will be sent via email and posted on our SSFJ website. The videos will help you prepare for the following week's Gospel along with practical ideas for building your "domestic church". It is our hope that you will set aside a time to view the video as a family and invite Christ in to your everyday living!
Videos and discussion questions will be emailed out on Sunday afternoons and posted on the SSFJ Facebook Page & the SSFJ Website.
