St. John School Newsletter
November 8, 2021
St. John Families:
Welcome to the Season of Giving! As we draw near to the Advent season, it is important that we work together to teach our children the Joy of Giving. We are reminded in 2 Corinthians that God loves a cheerful giver.
Jesus taught us to love one another and to care for the poor. In fact, Jesus’s words were not “If you give to the poor….”. Our Lord was very particular when He said “When you give to the poor…”. It is in that spirit then that we teach our children the value of giving.
Our first defined giving opportunity will occur on November 15. As you should be aware, this day (Nov. 15) is our school picture day. Unlike years past, picture day is not on orientation day, but is instead on a regular school day. I had planned to celebrate our new school and our new school pride with pictures taken in our school uniforms. However, I realize that many of you have come to expect that your children have pictures taken out of uniform (because the photos were taken before school started).
So, this year you may send your students to school on Monday, November 15th out of uniform by a making a $5 donation per student to support a charity that does vital work here in Scott County. One hundred percent of the donated funds will be given to the Not Alone Pregnancy Center to support their mission of helping expecting mothers and new mothers keep their children and have enough to support their healthy growth. Our parish and our Knights of Columbus chapter regularly support this vital charity and its efforts. You may send in cash or write a check to St. John School and put “Not Alone” in the memo line. We will then send a single check from the school to the Not Alone Pregnancy Center with the collected funds.
Our second giving opportunity this season is the Toys for Tots drive being hosted by the Georgetown Fire Department to support the drive run by the United States Marine Corps. We have been asked to join their efforts by collecting new and gently used books for children. More details will follow on this event, so be on the lookout on when and where to turn these books in to support children and their appetite to read.
For our third giving opportunity, we will once again be participating in the iGiveCatholic fundraiser this year. All the funds raised during this fundraiser will go towards bringing a playground to our Cardome campus for all the school-age children to enjoy. You will be seeing emails and promotions with the details for this fundraiser in the days to come.
Peace to you all,
Mr. Mayer

St. John School is excited to participate in this year’s #igivecatholic campaign on Giving Tuesday! Through the generous donations in past years, we have been able to purchase equipment and furniture for our classrooms. This year, we are hoping to raise $10,000 toward playground equipment for our new campus at Cardome. We are so grateful for the support of our community in helping our school become the best it can be for our students. Be sure to mark your calendars to help us meet our goal on Giving Tuesday!
