St. Francis and John Catholic Parish and St. John Catholic School had a very busy weekend. On the parish side there was a Memorial Mass, two Baptisms, a wedding, confession for 30 plus confirmation students, and the weekend Masses. On the school side we had students marching in the Parade of Horses, running in a cross country meet, and playing in numerous soccer matches. No doubt about it, we are a very active and thriving community!
A special thanks to the parents who took time out of their busy schedule to organize the participation of the St. John Catholic School students in the Parade of Horses. We had almost 40 students and many parents marching. This was a great way to get our name out into the community.
We are sorry to announce that this will be the last week for our crossing guard of eight years. Lisa Davenport's smile and holiday hats will definitely be missed. She plans on being a substitute teacher for Scott County and St. John School.
Lastly, the students and teachers have been working very hard. You are welcome to visit our classrooms anytime. I am confident you will see that your children are receiving a top notch education. We are in the process of analyzing scores from the fall MAP testing to see where we can improve as a school. The students will have a well deserved day off this Friday!
God bless and take care,
Dan Mardell

Box Tops, Labels for Education & My Coke Rewards
Don't forget to keep collecting these "free fundraisers" and sending them in to the school office. With our Labels for Education points we were able to purchase 3 sets of combined handbells/deskbells for our music classes. These bells would cost over $150 if we had to purchase them. They were free to us because you clip and send in your Labels for Education! Thank You!

Lastly, we will not be hosting a fundamentals clinic for the younger teams this year. We are encouraging our students to get involved with the Faith First program run by Christ the King. They teach the basics we are looking for while providing the competition that was lacking in our program so we feel this is a great way to get our younger students involved and give them an opportunity to get to know the students they will be playing against when they get to 5th grade.
Cross Country
This past weekend the harriers from St. John ran at the Williamstown Invitational. We had a rather chilly day, but the kids loved the wooded course full of twists, turns, hills, and bridges! Everyone did great! Kristin Drummond finished 18th and Kylie Hargrave 20th in the 5th and 6th grade girls race. Caanan Neaves finished 10th , Brian Reinhart 11th, and David Reinhart 13th in the middle school races. They led the middle school boys to another 3rd place finish, just one point away from 2nd place. John Reinhart won the 4th and under boys race. Our next race is in 2 weeks in Woodford County. Our last meet of the 2014 year is on
October 25th at Masterson Station. This is the state meet.
