Fun times at recess!
Cross Country
The 6th grade class grew crystals over the weekend!
Our 8th grade class has been studying surface tension. They had to determine how many drops of water could fit on a penny. About 50 drops fit!
Principal's CornerGreetings,
As we roll into October, the students have settled in and they are working hard. We finished the first round of MAP testing , the athletes are well into their seasons, and parent conferences will soon be upon us. I am very impressed with the dedication of the staff and the great work produced by the students. Congratulations to the cross country team. They finished fourth in their last meet and their times keep on improving (see the results below). Soccer season is in full swing and the players are excited about their games.
Thank you for all your help with recycling and shoe collection for the Watershed Project. These are both great ways to be good stewards of God's environment.God bless and take care,

No after school 10/3
Due to the Festival of the Horse parade, there will not be after school on Friday, 10/3. The parade forms on Military Street and the city will be shutting down many streets early.
Mass changes for 10/3 and 10/4
Due to the Festival of the Horse parades, the 5:30 PM Mass Friday and 6:00 PM Mass on Saturday, are cancelled.Spelling Bee
The following students won their classroom spelling bee competitions and will be compet ing in the school spelling bee on Tuesday, October 21st directly after mass. Only the top 2 classroom winnerswill compete in the school bee. The third student is an alternate. Blessing of the AnimalsOn Friday, October 3rd at 8:00 AM, Fr. LInh will be blessing animals in the church parking lot. In years past, besides the normal dogs and cats, our menagerie included a horse, hamsters, mice, turtles, etc. ALL pets are welcome but be sure to keep them safe - on a leash or in a carrier!
Need Spirit wear?
Joanne Andres will be selling spirit wear after school on Monday (9/29) and Tuesday (9/30). She will be selling what we still have in stock so there will be limited colors and sizes. Please stop by and purchase a shirt to show your "SAINTS" spirit!
Virtus Classes
We have classes scheduled on Monday, 10/6 at 6:30pm and Wednesday, 10/8 at 6:30pm in the Mary house. If you are planning to volunteer in the classrooms or drive for field trips you MUST attend this class. We have many field trips already scheduled this year and will need your help in transporting the kids.
Children's Bible School
Children's Bible School scheduled for Friday, October10th, has been cancelled due to Scott County Fall Break.
Festival of the Horse ParadeSt. John School will be participating in the Festival of the Horse Parade in Georgetown Oct. 3, 2014. We will be meeting in the school parking lot at 5:45pm. The parade is scheduled to start at 6:30pm. We will be marching down Main Street with stick horses. We would love all grades to participate, including a few parents and teachers. Attire to wear: St. John shirt, navy or maroon shirt, attire with horses on it, or cowboy/girl attire. We need a head count so please review your calendar and if it is open please consider REPRESENTING our school. Cross Country NewsThis week the mighty St John harriers ran at the Capital View Classic at the Archives in Frankfort; this was nice because we had run the same course about 3 1/2 weeks ago as our first meet of the year. The team did great!! Twelve of the thirteen runners who ran the same 1500 meter course earlier this year IMPROVED on their time -- by an average of 32 seconds!!! These runners included Josh Drummond, John Reinhart, Hadyn Humphrey, Gianna Bilotta, Alex Mayer, Kristin Drummond, Evan Lopez, Grace Hommrich, Matt Drummond, Aiden Lopez, Kylie Hargrave, and Jonathan Hall !! The middle school boys (minus Caanan Neaves, who was not there) missed 3rd place by just ONE point; they continue to do great!!!Our next meet is on TUESDAY (the 30th) at The Lexington School. Running begins at 5 and should be done by 7 PM. Come out and cheer them on if you get a chance!!!Middle School Service ProjectThe middle school is coming to the close of their two week service project. You still have time - until September 30th - to donate shoes to the WaterStep project. WaterStep will then use these shoes to sell to make money to dig wells and send waterballs to people who do not currently have access to safe drinking water. Shoes that are unable to be sold will be recycled! Any shoes can be used: old lawn mowing shoes, high heels, outgrow shoes, shoes that aren't comfortable, or shoes you just don't use anymore! Shoes may be dropped at the parish office by Tuesday, September 30th. If your child is already registered to play soccer or cross country you just need to send in a check for the registration fee. The fees for Winter sports are as follows: 1st sport per child $100, 2nd sport per child $45, 3rd sport per child $30.Monday at Faith Baptist - 6 to 7:30 boys 7/8thMonday at Faith Baptist - 7:30 to 9 girls 7/8thTuesday at Faith Baptist - 6:30 to 8 boys 5/6thTuesday at Ed Davis- 6:30 to 8 Dance Need 5 girls.Wednesday at Ed Davis - 6:00 to 7:30 CheerleadersThursday at Faith Baptist - 6 to 7:30 boys 7/8thThursday at Faith Baptist - 7:30 to 9 Girls 7/8thThursday at Anne Mason - 6:30 to 8 boys 5/6thLastly, we will not be hosting a fundamentals clinic for the younger teams this year. We are encouraging our students to get involved with the Faith First program run by Christ the King. They teach the basics we are looking for while providing the competition that was lacking in our program so we feel this is a great way to get our younger students involved and give them an opportunity to get to know the students they will be playing against when they get to 5th grade.
AR testing
The computer lab will be open on Monday's from 3-3:30 for students to take AR quizzes

Used Uniforms
Don't forget to stop by the office to purchase some gently used uniforms. You may also drop off all your old uniforms that don't fit anymore.BingoBingo Teams are being formed. Please turn in the paper from your orientation packet indicating which nights work best for your family. Every Family is Expected to participate in this major fund raiser.
