Since the announcement on Tuesday, March 12th of the $100,000 Matching Grant Program (flyer attached down below), the school has raised just over $16K towards the goal! I am proud to announce that members of the school staff chipped in and raised just under $1200 as a group, which means with the matching grant, the staff was able to put almost $2400 towards the project!! For those that have not donated yet, we have until Friday before this giving period ends. Remember that giving a donation now doubles the value of the gift because of the matching fund. No gift is too small to help! We would love to have you as part of our winning team!
The Parish Life Center will house a large meeting space capable of holding 500+ people that will serve the school as a gym, as an assembly hall, as an indoor recess area, and as an expanded seating area for the attached Chapel. It fulfills a decades-long vision to provide a gymnasium for our school so that our students benefit from daily indoor access as well as extracurricular sports and activities.
Thanks to Ms. Burns efforts, I am also excited to announce that next Tuesday, May 7th, St. John School will be leading a May Crowning of Mary in the Grotto. This is a new event for St. John School and all are invited to join us. We will have Mass as normal in the Chapel at 8:30 am and then after Mass, we will proceed over to the Grotto (weather permitting) for the May Crowning. In the Catholic Church, we honor Mary’s willingness to be the handmaid of the Lord, to be the mother of Jesus, to become the mother of the Church, the Queen of the world, and to be our advocate in all things. To help with the crowning ceremony, the children will be asked to lay flowers about the statue area of the Grotto. You can help us out by sending them with some cut flowers on Tuesday morning. These can be store-bought or hand-picked flowers of any simple variety. Daisies, carnations, roses, and lilies, are all typical flowers. The second grade will be leading us in a decade of the Rosary and will crown Mary’s statue in the Grotto.
On Thursday, May 9th, Mrs. Jansen and the students will host the Annual Art Show from 3:00-6:30 PM on the first floor of the Main Cardome Building. Please come by to see all the great works of art. It is always amazing to see just how creative and talented our kiddos can be! See the flyer below.
As a reminder, next week is also teacher appreciation week. I have seen the list of items and actions you all have planned to support the teachers and it looks to be a wonderful week around here for them! Please be sure to send them a thank you or a shout out. This staff works very hard to meet the needs of the students. It is a rewarding experience for sure, but your support always re-charges those batteries to keep them going to the end!!
Lastly, two summer updates. I cannot emphasize enough how helpful the Summer Solutions workbooks are in providing your student with the necessary practice over the summer to have them prepared for next year with minimal learning loss. The lessons align with our Simple Solutions and give the students a boost of confidence and give their brains a “non-digital” exercise. A lesson a day, 4-5 days a week will make a huge difference towards how confident they feel when they return in the fall. Click here to find ordering information. A flyer is also being sent home to you. Next, I apologize for any confusion that there is not a Summer Saints program this year. Due to staffing and funding shortages, we could not offer the program again this year. Again, I apologize if that was not communicated well enough. We hope to offer the program again next summer.
Save the Date to help with the St. John School Field Day – May 17, 2024.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
