St. John School Newsletter December 13, 2021 St John Families:
Later this week you will be receiving a Christmas Message from my office via email. Please pay attention that the school office will be closed over the Christmas break.
WOW!! I want to thank you all for participating in the St. John School/Georgetown Fire Department book drive to support Toys for Tots. We collected over 600 books! With a target of 140 books, we really overachieved on this one! The Fire Department was so thankful and wanted our kids to know that they were very proud of them. Great job!
While our three Season of Giving activities are now over, please take a look at the Tornado Relief Request down below. Anything that you can spare to help our fellow Kentuckians in Western KY would be greatly appreciated.
Regarding the Covid vaccine survey. You can still return it to school this week; we have responses from about half of our families. I would love to include the other half to make our data as accurate as possible. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and return to the school office via your student’s office folder. A reminder that your name is not needed on the survey.
Lastly, a reminder that dismissal for the last day of the quarter (December 17th) will be at 11:15 AM. There is NO AFTERSCHOOL that day. Also, please be aware that BREAKFAST will be served that morning, but there will be NO LUNCH OFFERED to the students.
The gates will open at 11:00 AM and dismissal will be like any other school day with the exception that Preschool-only families (those with no older siblings) will get separate dismissal information from Mrs. Wayman with an earlier dismissal time. Preschoolers with older siblings at St. John will follow the normal dismissal process we follow every day (just at the earlier time).
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
Picture Retake Day School picture retake day is scheduled for Thursday, December 16th. Students must wear their school uniform for pictures on this day. Please email the office at [email protected] to notify us if your child needs to have their picture taken. Students will only be pulled for pictures if the office is notified.
Donations for Tornado Victims St. John Families:
Among other families, Mrs. Noffsinger and Mrs. Ramsey have friends and family living in Western Kentucky that were impacted by the deadly tornado this weekend. The video and photos show the widespread devastation but can't truly describe the total loss that thousands of people are feeling right now. There are many ways that we can help. First, continue to pray for the families as they deal with this trauma. Pray for their safety and welfare. Pray for their hearts to be strong. Pray for perseverance and healing.
Second, we can take immediate action. From this afternoon through Wednesday morning (12/15/21), we can collect items in need to support the families in Western Kentucky. The Diocese of Lexington has a truck set up at the parking lot of Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary. We can collect the following items here and St. John graduate, Jacob Noffsinger, will deliver the goods down to Mary Queen in time for them to make the trip to Western Kentucky on Wednesday: Paper Goods - Paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, etc. Toiletries - Soap, toothbrushes, paste, deodorant, shampoo, etc. Cleaning Supplies - Laundry detergent, cleaning solutions, cleaning/sanitizing wipes, sponges, etc.
You can also make cash/check donations in the following ways: 1. Monetary donations can be dropped off in the school office or sent into school with your student. Please place in an envelope marked “Tornado Disaster Relief”. You can also make checks out to “The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth” and put “Tornado Disaster Relief” in the memo line. 2. You may also make a check out to St. John School and put “Tornado Disaster Relief” in the memo line. We will be able to transfer those funds down to Mayfield directly. 3. You may purchase gift cards from stores like Walmart and Lowes and drop those off at the school office if you would like (there are even a few of those cards in Scrip inventory in the office). 4. This weekend there will be a collection at our parish Masses and you may make a donation then.
Thank you all in advance for your generosity and support.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
