Greetings to all our families. Summer is heating up and the days seem to be flying by! I spoke at the Masses this past weekend encouraging the parish families to help us show how affordable a Catholic education can be this year and the message seemed well received. Keep reaching out to friends and neighbors as we push this last month to fill out our grades. Your word of mouth and testament to what a Catholic education at St. John School means to you is the best advertisement we can put forth. So, thanks for the help on this.
Two important dates to keep in mind. First, please consider getting involved with our Cross Country program when practice starts on July 26th. Coach Todd Reinhart does an excellent job of teaching not only running but great lessons for a healthy and fulfilling life and I do my best to unlock the abilities in each of the kids running. The families of the cross country team tend to become very close (it is the nature of the sport) and the kids go on to be great friends. We would love to see your children come out and unlock the runner inside. We have a great team of core runners and could really bring home some hardware if we can fill out the various age groups that compete. Come give it a chance (see Coach Todd's details below)!
Second, we will be having in-person orientation this year. It will be held at our Cardome campus on August 8, 2021 starting at 12:30. Yes, that is a Sunday; there will be a string of events that day starting with an invitation to all school families to attend the 10:00 Mass at the Grotto on Cardome campus. More details for the events with a full schedule will be coming, but the date is set for August 8th. Please make plans to attend.
Keep your eyes open for other updates as we finish our preparations at the new campus. Also, please be patient as we put this together and pray for our success. What we will offer this year is better than ever before and yet it is only the beginning of many wonderful successes for your children.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
As the summer heats up, it’s time to start thinking about being a part of the St. John cross country team for this upcoming school year!! Cross country is a fun team sport that challenges you individually to be the best you can be! If you have never done it before, come out and give it a try! Returning runners: talk to your fellow classmates and encourage them to be a harrier with you! All it takes is a pair of running shoes, a good attitude, and a willingness to try hard!
Returning runners: It’s time to get out there and start putting a few miles on those legs! Give me a shout if you would like some suggestions on how to do this.
Practice will officially begin on Monday, July 26th, at 6 PM at Brooking Park next to the big playground where we have met in years past. We will have a short parents’ meeting at the beginning of that practice to go over things for the season. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or 606-669-1230.
I hope to see a lot of veteran and new faces on July 26th! I’m looking forward to a fun and rewarding season! Coach Todd Reinhart

You may or may not be aware of Nothing But Treble, a wonderful summer choral music camp for children ages 7-13, which has been running for several years now. Nothing But Treble was founded by Caitlin Flemm, a choral exemplar scholar at Lexington Catholic High School, the summer after her freshman year. Caitlin is now a junior choral music education major at the University of Kentucky, co-president of the UK Women’s Choir, and coach of the women’s acapella group, Paws and Listen. Though our amazing camp was not able to meet last summer, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are back full-force this year and ready to sing!
NBT will be held this year from July 26 to July 30 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 2800 Tates Creek Rd., 40502. Although the venue is different this time, all of our fun traditions remain, and we are so very eager to sing again!!
I hope that you will share our flyer and the contents of this email with your student body, parents, and other stakeholders, especially with anyone who has a strong interest in choral / vocal music.
In order to register for this year’s event, parents should visit our website, nbtchoir.wixsite.com/website. We are also here for you, to answer any questions you may have, at [email protected].

Important Lunch Information for the 2021-2022 School year
School breakfast and lunch will be free for all students for the 2021-22 school year. This takes the burden off of families while they continue to recover from the pandemic. We still need our families to apply for free/reducded lunches if applicable. These applications affect receipt of the P-EBT cards the government has been sending out as well as grant money the school recieves from the state.

“The family, is so to speak, the domestic church.” (Lumen Gentium #11)
We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Good Shepherd to bring CHRIST IN MY HOME Ministry to SSFJ! Each week, a short video (no more than 10 minutes!) will be sent via email and posted on our SSFJ website. The videos will help you prepare for the following week's Gospel along with practical ideas for building your "domestic church". It is our hope that you will set aside a time to view the video as a family and invite Christ in to your everyday living!
Videos and discussion questions will be emailed out on Sunday afternoons and posted on the SSFJ Facebook Page & the SSFJ Website.
