St. John School Newsletter
March 28th, 2022
St. John Families:
One week left until Spring Break! To help keep us focused this week, there are a couple of special events that our students will be participating in as part of our Lenten practices.
First, after school Mass on Tuesday, we will be offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) for our students and observing Adoration (the Exposition of the Body of Jesus) during that time over in the Chapel. Our students have been preparing by making an examination of conscience. I want to let you know that you are welcome to attend Mass and sit in prayer for the Adoration, but I would ask that you go to confession tonight (Monday, 3/28) at St. John Church at 6:00 and leave the confession time on Tuesday just to our students and staff (because of time constraints).
Second, our 4th grade class will be leading us in the Stations of the Cross for the school this Friday (just as they have each Friday of Lent). This Friday we will have them in the Chapel at 8:15 am. You are welcome to attend.
Lastly, we are still collecting our Lenten almsgiving including the CRS Rice Bowls at home, the support of Afghan refugees with donations of goods and the Out of Uniform Day this Friday (4/1/22) for a cash donation. You are also encouraged to help us support the Dom and Dave Memorial 5K with donations of water and granola bars.
The middle school has been diligently preparing for the Passion Play to be held on Good Friday (4/15/22) in the Chapel and I would encourage you to make plans to attend. It is a powerful and moving testimony of our faith and helps to bring home the sacrifice that Jesus made for our sins right before your eyes.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer

As mentioned at the beginning of Lent, St. John School is participating in multiple opportunities for giving to help others. Below are details for how we can support Afghan refugees as part of our Lenten Mission by collecting money and household items in partnership with Ss. Francis and John Parish and our lay Franciscans.
St. John School is collecting the following household items that will be given to support Afghan refugees that have been re-settled in Lexington:
Blankets, sheets, pillow cases, bath and kitchen towels, pots, pans, dishes, mixing bowls, baking sheets, and toiletry items like deodorant, soap, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, etc.
You can drop these items off at the main school office between now and April 1st (we are working to get bins that we can place the loose items into).
Thanks for your support.

St. John School is asking for your help in donating water and granola bars for the Dom & Dave Memorial 5k! This race is in memory of Mrs. Bilotta's son and his friend who lost their lives last May in a tragic car accident. We will need about 40 cases of water and 90 boxes of granola bars for the race. These much appreciated donations can be given during the student morning drop off or brought to the school office.
If you would like to register for the race on April 24th, there's still time! It's a family friendly course to run or walk. Come join us and honor the memory of two very special boys!!

School breakfast and lunch will be free for all students for the 2021-22 school year. This takes the burden off of families while they continue to recover from the pandemic.
