St. John School Newsletter
May 16th, 2022
St. John Families:
As we move ever closer to the end of this school year, it is important that we take time to celebrate our successes, both little and big. Last Friday, we sent our 4th/5th graders to Frankfort and our 8th graders out to Western KY. By all accounts, the trips were a success and our students represented our school well as they enjoyed the sites and tours. And they all made it back safe and sound!
On Saturday, a new group of young Catholics received their First Communion as our students celebrated Mass with Fr. Linh at St. John Church and experienced the joy of taking Jesus into their bodies. It was a wonderful experience and you could really tell how much preparation they had put into getting ready.
This past weekend, the parish yard sale had great weather and great attendance. I am sure that they will be able to share with us soon how successful the event was in terms of raising money to repair the boiler and support the school playground.
Astute observers will have noticed that there is finally a kitchen sitting on the concrete pad next to the parish hall. I can happily report that the kitchen just passed the health department inspection and will be fully functional for school lunches next year (due to the timing of moving all the other items needed to run the kitchen from the Main Street campus, we will finish this school year as-is). Miss Lydia will give you some better details on that topic.
Lastly, Field Day is this Friday, May 20, 2022. As in years past, this is “bring your own lunch” day because of the changes to the daily schedule, the off-campus fun that the middle school has in the morning, and the outdoor time that the classes enjoy. Your teachers will let you know this week if there are any special lunch plans for any of the classes, but please understand that there will not be lunch served through the Diocesan Food Service (breakfast will still be available that morning, however).
Be sure to keep checking the calendar for important dates and be on the lookout for some specific update emails later this week!
Peace,
Mr. Mayer

Art Show Information
Thank you to everyone who came out and made the SJS Art Show a huge success. I’m so happy the students’ talent and hard work was shared with so many. Special thanks to Olivia Noffsinger and Ella Ramsey for setting up, Emily Balbaugh and Lisa Case for helping with snacks and everything else.
All student artwork will be returned to you in a folder either this week or next. Your child’s Artsonia account will remain with you as long as you maintain the account and you can continue to order items from there as well. Thank you again - I’m looking forward to another year of AMAZING ART with these kids!!
**If you still wish to order framed art or art notecards from me, you can! I have frames for the larger 18X12 art as well as the 11x14 art (I believe I misspoke to several people at the art show, saying I did not have larger frames). Please send in the form with payment to the office no later than Wednesday, or contact me directly at (916) 743-0388.

School breakfast and lunch will be free for all students for the 2021-22 school year. This takes the burden off of families while they continue to recover from the pandemic. We still need our families to apply for free/reduced lunches if applicable, click here. These applications affect receipt of the P-EBT cards the government has been sending out as well as grant money the school receives from the state.
