The Double S Stampede cross country meet on Saturday was a fantastic event. The future home of St. Francis & John Church and St. John School provided a perfect place for this meet. The green grass, freshly mowed course, wetlands, Bossy Barn, and the big wooden cross in the middle of the course made for a fantastic backdrop. The meet had approximately 600 runners competing with many family members and friends cheering them on. It was so nice to see people smiling, visiting, and cheering on the competitors whether they were in the top ten or struggling to finish. I can't help but think that God had to be smiling as he looked down on the meet. A special thank you goes out to Coach Reinhart, Coach Mayer, and the Scott County Coaches for putting on such a great meet. Also, thank you to the parents, parishioners, and members of the Knights of Columbus who helped at the meet. This is just one more example of the church, school, and community working together to create a tremendous, positive event.
Remember that the students will be MAP testing the next two weeks. To keep us on schedule with the testing it is very important that all students are on time and ready to work. Please make sure the snacks you are sending are healthy. Also, with all the activities going on please make sure the children get proper rest and most importantly take time to pray!
God bless and take care,
Dan Mardell
Here's What's New:
Double "S" Stampede
We had a wonderful day with the rain holding off and Mr Mardell showing up to cheer on the team!! The kids love it when he is there.
For the returning runners, Brian Reinhart, Caanan Neaves, and Nathan Mayer all set PERSONAL BESTS at the 3K! Both Brian and Caanan broke the prior school record for a male at the 3K distance! Josh Drummond also set a personal best at this Stampede! Everybody else ran very well -- several of them were JUST shy of the same time last year. The boys 4-6th grade team finished 5th of 11 teams and the MS boys team finished in 5th place! These were the only 2 team that we had at least 5 folks running to score.
