This is the last week of September! And the Penny Wars have come to an end! It was a tough battle with lots of coins and I am announcing that the 7th grade has emerged victorious. The fundraising total was over $2,500 this year. As a reminder, next week our FALL BREAK runs WEDNESDAY – FRIDAY (10/4 – 10/6). Before we make it to that break, there are a few events of which to be aware.
Monday, October 2nd, is our Blessing of the Pets ceremony. It will be held (weather permitting, as always) in the Grotto at 8:10. The Grotto area is near the front of the Main Cardome building where the statue of the Blessed Mother Mary stands. It has a large concrete pad in front of the statue. You are welcome to bring your leashed or caged pet, a picture of the pet, or a stuffed animal representing the pet to our blessing ceremony. This annual ceremony celebrates the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (which falls on October 4th this year). After the blessing ceremony, there will be a little time for petting and saying goodbye and then the pets go home and the kids return to class.
Tuesday, October 3rd, is the school spelling bee. Grades 3-5 compete in the elementary division and have been holding their class bees. They will compete shortly after Tuesday Mass once we have everything set up for the bee. Grades 6-8 compete in the middle school division after the elementary division has been completed. The winning spellers from each division go on to represent St. John School in the Diocese Spelling Bee held at Lexington Catholic on October 18th. Runners-up from the St. John School Bee may attend the Diocese Spelling Bee as a spectator.
Before you head out of town, or if like me, you are staying in town for break, please remember the dining out fundraiser at MOD Pizza on Wednesday, October 4th. See the flyer below for the details!
As a reminder, basketball signups for K-4 basketball (co-ed) in the Faith First league and basketball signups for the parochial league boys or girls grades 5-8 are open. See directions for the Faith First League below. For parochial league signups, please send your reply to the school office. Cheerleading signups are coming soon!
Lastly, there is an informational meeting at SJS Archery for grades 4-8 tomorrow at 5:00 PM here at Cardome. See more details below.
Peace,
Mr. Mayer
